In response to the increasing threat of the proliferation of nuclear and other weapons of mass destruction (WMD), the need for strengthening
the global nonproliferation regime, especially the Nuclear Non-proliferation Treaty (NPT), is ever-growing.
As we head towards the 2020 NPT Review Conference, which will mark 50th anniversary of the entry into force of the Treaty and the 25th year
of its indefinite extension, many states are ready to work with the international community to maintain and further strengthen the regime. A
progressive, step-by-step approach to nuclear disarmament are needed, and an effective, sustainable disarmament must take into account
the international security environment.
In this regard, the GLEC calls for people’s attention to Global nuclear non-proliferation and disarmament issue, which are crucial factors for
sustainable peace.
